We are currently looking for a Taste Modulation intern in our Princeton, NJ office for Summer 2025. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with an expected schedule of approximately 30 hours per week.
Step into the world of innovation with Döhler’s R&D team! As a Taste Modulation Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience in the art and science of shaping flavor—working side-by-side with experts to create customized taste solutions for food and beverage applications. From compounding samples and preparing flavor matrices to organizing raw materials and supporting special projects, you'll dive deep into the product development process. This is your chance to explore the technical, creative, and collaborative side of food innovation while making a real impact on what the world tastes next.
Your responsibilities:
- Assist in the compounding of taste modulation samples under supervision.
- Support flavor setting in relevant application matrices to ensure accurate performance assessment.
- Handle and organize raw materials, including weighing, labeling, and inventory upkeep.
- Participate in maintaining the taste modulation product library and supporting digital documentation.
- Collaborate with the team to prepare samples for internal review or customer submission.
- Ensure lab cleanliness and support basic maintenance of lab equipment.
- Support day-to-day project work, including inter-departmental sample requests and raw material evaluations.
- Follow in-house guidelines for hygiene, food safety, and occupational safety.
- Contribute to special projects based on personal interest areas (e.g., sensory evaluation, digital systems, raw material research).
Learning Opportunities:
- Gain exposure to the taste modulation product development cycle from concept to sample.
- Learn about process transfer, formulation, and the role of modulation in food and beverage applications.
- Interact with cross-functional teams including Analytical, Regulatory, Quality, and Applications.
- Develop familiarity with digital systems (e.g., formula cockpit, SAP) used in product development and recipe documentation.

- Communication Proficiency – Working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment.
Your profile:
- College Freshman, Sophomore or Junior enrolled in a Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related degree program.
- Strong interest in flavor science, food innovation, or sensory evaluation.
- Organized, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced lab environment.
